Are You Leading Your Business Or Just Managing It?
This is the same question that has popped in my head whenever I get the chance to talk to my team…
or whenever I am in a group discussing concepts and principles about leadership and team work…
But really, are you leading your team or are you just managing them?
I invite you to think deeply…
Ask this question…
Have you ever had a time in your life when you religiously followed a leader?
Someone, who is maybe your superior at work…
Or a leader in your organization…
Or a Thought Leader who have Massive Influence in the industry you belong?
What made you think that he is actually LEADING you instead of just MANAGING you?
What made you follow this leader or person?
What is it in him that you admire most?
How do you feel whenever you are in this persons space?
How did this leader empower you?
Have you ever thought about that?
I believe these are question that you need to ask yourself if you really wanted to become a leader that people will follow…
Let me share with you 9 Hot Empowering Leadership I learned from my Mentor Aaron Rashkin…
1. “First seek to understand, then to be understood…”
“Can you give what you don’t have?”
You can’t, right?
For your Vision to be understood by others, you must first understand your own Vision.
And this means you have to do everything that you can to learn…
I believe I shared with you the “LEARN, DO, TEACH” methodology in
one of my post about the 7 Powerful, Amazing & Enlightening Success Lessons From Bruce Lee…
The same principle applies…
You see, for you to complete your Mastery of a specific skill set, you must be willing to Learn, Do & Teach at the same time.
Your ultimate goal in learning is to be able to share it to other people as well.
You have to Learn the System,
Take Action on what you’ve learned,
Teach the System and
Teach to Teach the System.
Learning does not only mean knowing what you need to do, but more importantly, doing what you know.
Taking massive action on what you learned.
And you have to take action at once…
You see, first you understand the system, the way you do business.
And then, and only then, will you be understood by others.
When you are understood, then and only then will others want to and be able to learn the System from you.
This is when you have people, all doing exactly what YOU are doing.
2. “Lead yourself first, then when you are truly ready, others will follow…”
Do you know that the most important person that you need to lead is yourself?
That’s the truth…
But then you might ask,
“How do I do that?”
“How do I lead myself?”
Leadership is an act of influencing people to achieve a common result.
The more you influence your followers, the more they will follow you wherever you go.
Therefore, the most important skill that you need to learn to become a great leader is the ability to influence people…
But how do you influence people?
Are you going to use some mysterious Jedi Mind Trick?
Are you going to use some sort of hypnosis to influence people?
Although the options may work (in the movies…),
There is a sure and simpler way on how to achieve Massive Influence in your Team…
And that is to influence the masses with your life…
As it is my friend, “Your life is your message…”
You must be able to attract followers and other leaders through the power of your influence which is anchored on your character.
And since it’s Leaders that Lead their Followers,
what must lead YOU,
is not just another leader, but your own VISION.
When you have a clear vision of what you want then and only then will you
invest the time, energy and passion inside of you,
to devote yourself to the mission.
This means doing everything that you’d want your followers to do, when they show up.
This means Leading by Example.
Doing the thing.
Getting down & Dirty when need be.
3. “Learn To Prioritize…”
Do you know what is the common denominator is all successful leaders in the world?
They know how to prioritize…
A science teacher shows his class a glass jar and a bowl of rocks.
He asks his students to fill the jar with rocks all the way to the top.
When completed, he asks if anything else can fit.
The students agree that no more could fit into the jar.
Then, the science teacher pulls out a bowl of stones, just a bit
smaller than the rocks.
Sure enough, the students put the stones in the jar, which fit nicely between the rocks.
When all the stones were in the jar, the teacher then pulls out a bowl of pebbles.
Sure enough, the students poured the pebbles between the stones, which were between the rocks.
The students agree that no more could fit into the jar.
Then, the science teacher pulls out a bowl of sand, each grain
being smaller than the pebbles.
Sure enough, the students poured the sand between the pebbles, which were between the stones,
which were between the rocks.
Then, out came the silt, which fit right between the sand, which fit between the pebbles,
which fit between the stones which fit between the rocks.
The students were amazed!
They never thought any more could fit into the jar, but the rocks.
Moral of the Story?
What are YOUR big rocks?
Are you fitting them in first?
They could be your health,
…your relationship with God,
Whatever your priorities are, be sure to put them
in your jar first.
You can always fit in more, but make sure the big rocks fit in first.
This is how leaders operate.
They MAKE time for what is the most important.
Not urgent, but important for both now and in the future.
And this is what building relationship is to your business.
They are the lifeblood of your success.
4. “True strength and power is not about holding on, but letting go…”
What are the things that you need to let go of?
How do you this “letting go” thing?
Well, you need to be:
…Letting go of the need for control.
…Letting go of the need for perfection.
…Letting go of the need to be RIGHT.
…Letting go of the need to be important.
…Letting go of the fear of what others think of you.
So many things to let go of.
In other words, you must pretty much become empty.
One of the Great Concepts you need to understand is the concept of “Emptying Your Cup…”

So empty, that you can fill yourself back up with the qualities that it truly takes to become a Leader.
Letting go of having to have the answers and be right all the time.
Letting go of a situation when things don’t go your way; to be OK with it.
It is what it is and the less you resist, the less you and those around you will struggle.
5. “The Best Leaders, at first, are the Best FOLLOWERS.”
The key then, is to learn someone else’s system, as long as it
works and do it until you MASTER it.
However, it doesn’t mean you must first master it before you teach it to others.
The Key to Successful Leadership, is to be bold enough to take the
but humble enough to learn with your team.
Nobody should ever be too smart, to learn from everyone around them.
So again, The Best Leaders are the Best Followers.
everyone around you,
but Learn from Those Whose Way of Doing Business WORKS!
6. “Focus on your personal growth…”
“Where am I in my own journey towards Personal Growth this year?”
Have you asked yourself the same?
Do you stop every once in a while to assess where you are in your journey towards Personal Growth?
Here are some insights I have learned about Personal Growth.
a. Growth is not Automatic.
Each year, the lobsters are required to shed its shell.
Sometimes I think it’s a pity we’re not allowed to do the same.
So the sooner you start climbing, the sooner you are to reaching your fullest potential.
That is just the law of the universe.
– Oliver Wendell Holmes
“What are you doing today to become the Leader that you were born to be Tomorrow?”
c. Personal Growth is Your Responsibility.
Now that you’ve grown up, you are now responsible for your own Growth and Development.
Growth requires CHANGE.
And most of us are uncomfortable with CHANGE.
If we won’t GROW, we’re not really LIVING.
7. “The top is just the start of a higher climb…”
What the caterpillar calls the end, the butterfly calls the beginning.
The key then, is to do whatever you have to do, as
fast as you can,
so that you can do whatever you WANT to do, for as long as you can.
Leaders are Movers and Shakers.
They Take Initiative.
They Take Action.
They are always Striving to be Better.
No matter what level of success they achieve, they may get temporarily content, but they are never satisfied.
There is always someone out there looking for some assistance.
There is always someone out there searching for you, as much as you are searching for them.
There is always someone looking for a better life, a better lifestyle, more income, more peace of mind.
8. “You must work on yourself more than in any other part of your business…”
You may have heard the old saying…
“Your language will either make, or break your success.”
“Your Thoughts Become your Words,”
“Your Words Become your Actions,”
“Your Actions Create your Habits,”
“Your Habits Mold your Character,”
“And your Character Becomes your Destiny.”
So be careful of your thoughts.
Bottom line is, since thoughts become words…
And what words people use when speaking determine where they are in their lives.
Their language is a dead giveaway.
Become a Leader by developing more character.
Become a Leader by developing more influence and developing other Leaders.
When you get better, your success will follow.
Remember, you will never out-perform your own Self Image.
Know that your Personal Income will never exceed your Personal Growth.
Do whatever it takes.
Work more on yourself than on any other area of your business.
9. “Those who last always finish first…”
Remember, true leaders are not those who strive to be first…
but those who are first to strive and who give their all for the success of their team.
True leaders are the first to see the need, envision the plan and empower the team for action.
By the strength of the leader’s commitment, the true power of the team is unleashed.
So, STEP UP and become the best leader you can.
Do better than your best…
break your own records and constantly strive to improve your performance,
and I assure you, your team will notice and follow.
”Those who last, always finish first!”
Leadership is all about influencing people to achieve a common goal.
As a leader that you were born to be, you need to start from within you in order for people to follow you…
What do I mean?
The best and most important person that you are going to lead is yourself.
Lead yourself properly, and people will resonate with you and follow you..
This is a given fact.
Look, based on recent studies that I’ve read, people are social animals…
And just like animals who run in packs, people are also wanting to run with a social group which is led by a leader.
And the leader that people will follow is someone who is doing things in a “CERTAIN WAY”.
Someone who has a vision for his and his teams’ future and does not show fears and doubts.
If you want to become the great leader that you are to be, start looking deep within you and firming up your vision.
People must be able to see in your eyes the fulfillment of their hopes and dreams.
By following the Hot Empowering Leadership above, you are poised to being the best leader that your follower needs.
Remember, life is an endless game of follow the leader.
And people will follow you not because of where you came from…
People will follow you because of where you are going…
